MNSC Trails Committee Liaisons To Local Parks on Jan 29, 2008
Dear Madison area skier,
Liaisons from our club's committee to local park systems are Pete Anderson to Madison Parks, Jim Coors to Middleton Parks, and Mark Plane to Dane County Parks.
These gentlemen will be communicating with their respective parks' personnel to keep abreast of what they are doing with our ski trails, how and why (or why not). They will soon be reporting to us here with any news they have that can help us all better tune our skiing to local trail availability and quality. In this capacity, you may also want to contact them if you have comments, questions, or concerns about what is happening in their park systems to help them understand how the ski community feels about the trails and funnel this info on to the parks. Of course, you can also contact the parks directly, but keeping these guys in the loop will help them help their parks be the best they can be for all of us throughout this fine winter!

Hi Folks,
As Brock says, I'm now serving as the MNSC Trails Committee contact person with the city Parks department. My main function here is to improve communication between the Parks and the ski community. I'd like to communicate skiers concerns directly to the people responsible for the trails, and to get the factors affecting their grooming performance out to the skiers. There are conscientious people in Parks who want to do a good job with the trails, and I'd like to find out what we can do to help them.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns, or if there are any inquiries you would like me to make. And, of course, continue to contact the Parks department, the Parks Commission, the Mayor's office, and your alderperson directly. Making our needs known to alders is important, because the Parks department can only work within the resources they are allotted, and policy is often set from above. If we want to change that resource base, we need to work through the Common Council and the Parks Commission.
Thanks,
Pete Anderson
