Madison Winter Festival Volunteers Needed on Jan 13, 2009
Dear Madnorski Members,
Thank you very much for being a huge part of the Madison Winter Festival. Our volunteers are the backbone of this event. We are well under way with the organizing for this year's festival of February 9-15. It is our 5th annual Madison Winter Festival so we are very excited to make it the best event we've had yet. Along with the events that we have held every year at the Square including Fit City Kids, Super Tour Elite Racing, Ice Sculpting and Snow Carving we will be adding Ice Skating, Cycle Cross, and Running recreational and competitive events.
As you know it takes many volunteers to put on an event of this size and we need your help to do it. Volunteer shifts are open Friday, Feb. 13 - Sunday, Feb. 15 for many areas around the square. You can sign up for shifts in six hour increments that can be done in one day or spread over all three days. An orientation meeting will be held Thursday, February 5 at the Concourse Hotel.
Our biggest addition this year is our partnership with the Madison Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Youth Company to create the Winter Skill Games at Elver Park. The Winter Skills Games will take place in the week preceding the events around the Square. Monday, Feb. 9 through Thursday, Feb 12 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, kids will have the opportunity to learn a new activity under the guidance of skilled instructors and then have a fun competition with their peers demonstrating the skills they have learned.
We need 8-10 volunteers each night to assist with organizing the groups of kids and aiding the instructors so that they are free to teach. The volunteer time slots will be from on 1:30-8:30 Monday, 3:15-8:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. An orientation meeting will be on the evening of Tuesday, February 3 at 5:00 pm in the Elver Park Shelter before the Madnorski race.
