Bjorn Daehlie and Birkie "Race for the Cure" on Jan 30, 2009
This year, the American Birkebeiner Foundation has generously chosen the National MS Society as its "Race for the Cure". To highlight fund raising efforts, Bjorn Daehlie from Norway who has won more winter Olympic medals than anyone else, has been invited to ski the race as an "Ambassador for MS Research". He will start the Elite Classic Wave.
His primary reason for being here is to help raise funds for MS Research. An opportunity of a lifetime exists to ski with Bjorn for one hour on the Birkie trail Thursday morning then go to lunch with him. Top fund raisers ($2,500 or more) automatically get a spot. If you raise $250 your name will be put in the hat (twice for $500 and three times for $750) for a drawing performed to make up the lucky 25. The ski will be an easy, fun, no-skier-left-behind event with Bjorn giving tips and participants will get their picture taken with him to be signed later.
Bjorn will be at the Fischer booth from 12-1 on Friday signing his posters and will also be at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday night. Other appearances include the Birchleggers Breakfast and the New Moon Ski Shop between 10 and 11, both on Sunday morning.
Please consider making a donation as MS patients, a number of whom will ski the Birkie, are desperately seeking a cure. This will require more research and the funds to carry this out. Please consider helping skiers in our club with MS or who have affected family members or friends.
See the PDF poster or the Birkie webpage about the event for more information.
