Still lots of snow on these trails, although some roots were starting to show in one short stretch, none had melted by noon today. We skated Fern Dell and Hastings only. Fern Dell had been groomed after the 3 inches of dense moist snow that fell Monday and the skate deck was well packed, albeit a bit uneven and pretty fast (a.m.) making downhills a bit tricky. Hastings had not been groomed after the Monday snowfall so the skate deck had about 2-3 inches of ungroomed snow on top of the very nice and level skate deck below. The dense ungroomed snow made downhill turning difficult on skinny skate skis. The trees are still bundled in snow, the birds were singing and it was great to ski in southern Wisconsin in December on natural snow. Thanks to Aaron, Dave and Leslie for earlier trail reports.
